Betsy Hartnett’s interest in nursing and healthcare

was inspired by the work of her grandmother,

Mary Shanahan Hartnett, the first superintendent and

Director of Crouse-Irving Hospital and its Training School

for Nurses. A highly regarded attorney and CPA partner with Mackenzie Hughes, LLP, Betsy is a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel and the New York Bar Foundation. She is also Vice Chair of The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse and past Chair of the Board for Syracuse Stage. She is former Chair of the Trusts and Estates Section of the New York Bar Association. She periodically lectures on wealth management and estates and trusts law topics for the New York State Bar Association and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. She has furthered her interests in and commitment to healthcare and our hospital by

volunteering for the Crouse organization since the 1970’s.

In 1990, Betsy joined the board of the Crouse Health

Foundation and ultimately served as Chair from 2000

to 2003. In 2003, she joined the Crouse Hospital board,

and served as its Chair from 2007 to 2012. Betsy is now

Vice Chair of the hospital board and, throughout her

involvement with Crouse, has been a strong advocate

for our nurses, the Crouse Hospital College of Nursing

and its students. She was recently honored by the Crouse

Health Foundation as its 2013 Tribute Evening Honoree.
