Labor Relations
Crouse Hospital employees are represented by the Service Employees International Union, SEIU, Local 1199, United Healthcare Workers East. There are three bargaining agreements currently in place representing the majority of Crouse employees — RN, LPN/Technical, and Service, Maintenance and Clerical staff. All employees covered by one of these agreements are required to become members of the union upon completion of 30 calendar days. These agreements have been negotiated for a three-year term.
The Service and Maintenance Unit has been unionized since the early 1970s. Clerical staff joined the bargaining unit in 2001 (the contract was renamed the “Service, Maintenance and Clerical Unit” to include the new members). Licensed practical nurses, technical employees and registered nurses unionized in 1994.

Over the years, the union and Crouse Hospital have worked collaboratively on numerous projects that have benefited the hospital, employees, patients and our community. We are committed to working together to obtain our ultimate goals of providing the best in patient care, promoting community health and remaining the employer of choice.
