PATIENT INFORMATION:

ANGIOGRAPHY

What is the test?

Angiography is a radiographic technique that uses computer-assisted images to examine the vascular system (blood vessels).

What preparation is needed?

You will receive a phone call from the x-ray department to discuss pre-test preparations.

How is the test done?

You will be positioned on an X-ray table. At this time some X-rays will be taken to get a pre-test picture. Next, an angiographic catheter is inserted. With injection of the contrast medium you may experience some mild symptoms such as a feeling of warmth, a metallic taste, or nausea. While the contrast is being administered there will be another set of x-rays taken. The test will take between 30-45 minutes. Some patients receive intravenous sedation and local anesthetic at the puncture site.

What can I expect after the test?

1. You will spend up to 4 hours in the radiology recovery room.

2. You will be given discharge instructions by the radiology nurse.
