What is the test?

What preparation is needed?

No preparation is needed.

How is the test done?

You will need to lie still on your back and to breathe quietly during the procedure. A special camera will be positioned over your abdomen. You will then be given an intravenous injection of a harmless dose of radioactive material. A series of pictures will be taken as you lie on your back, then you may be asked to move into a few different positions to photograph more views of your liver and spleen. You may also be asked to hold your breath briefly. The test takes about 1 hour.

What can I expect after the test?

You should have no discomfort from the test. You may resume your normal activities after the test.
