PATIENT INFORMATION:

MAMMOGRAPHY

What is the test?

Mammography is an X-ray technique used to detect breast abnormalities such as breast cysts or tumors, especially those not palpable on physical examination.

What preparation is needed?

You should not use any talcum powder and remove deodorant before procedure.

How is the test done?

The patient is placed in a sitting position and is asked to place one breast on a shelf above an X-ray cassette. Compression of the breast tissue is done in order to obtain an adequate film. This may cause mild discomfort that will be relieved as soon as the films are taken. The procedure is repeated for the other breast.

What can I expect after the test?

You will be able to resume normal activities after the test.
