Our goal with this section is to assist our colleagues in the media in obtaining information about Crouse Hospital and the services we provide. We want you to use this site to identify expert resources or learn about services available at the hospital. We regularly receive requests to include patients as part of the story. We recognize how important this component is for health stories and we will do our best to accommodate those requests. We understand that sometimes it may be difficult to access our experts directly, so a department member is most always on-call to assist you in meeting your deadlines. Please feel free to contact the department and we will facilitate your request. Patient Information and the Media Effective April 14, 2003, new federal regulations require us to be even more vigilant in safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of our patients’ medical conditions. Condition reports Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, known as HIPAA, we may release information about the condition of a patient only if the inquiry specifically contains the patient’s name. If the patient has not requested that information be withheld, and the request for information contains the patient’s name, we will generally be able to release the patient’s condition. However, we will do so in general terms that do not communicate specific medical information.
