Health Tip: When You Can't Hear

Health Tip: When You Can't Hear

(HealthDay News) -- One third of people aged 60 or older have at least some hearing loss, making it one of the most common medical problems in older adults, the Cleveland Clinic says.

If you have hearing loss, there are things your loved ones can do to help you cope. Here are some of the clinic's suggestions:

  • Loved ones should be told that you have a hard time hearing, so they understand the problem and are able to help.
  • Loved ones can look directly at you while speaking.
  • Loved ones can speak a little more loudly and clearly, but they don't have to shout or slow down.
  • Loved ones can work with you and should be patient, as it can take time to adjust to hearing loss.
