Crouse Hospital Appoints Medical Staff Officers; Ophthamology Chief


Syracuse, NY -- Crouse Hospital recently named new officers to its medical staff and appointed a new chief of ophthamology.

John Cucinotta, MD, was elected president following a two-year term as vice president of the hospital’s medical staff. He is a radiologist with Crouse Radiologist Associates, as well as a clinical assistant professor of radiology at the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse and secretary of the Crouse Health Foundation. A resident of Manlius, Dr. Cucinotta has 17 years experience in the field of radiology. He received a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University in 1973 and his doctorate of medicine from the SUNY Health Science Center in 1977. Dr. Cucinotta residencies in St. Joseph’s Hospital and University Hospital. He is a past president and has been a member of the Fayetteville-Manlius Board of Education since 1990.

Herb Mendel, MD, was elected vice president of the Crouse medical staff. A surgeon with CNY Surgical Physicians, P.C., Dr. Mendel is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. Also of Manlius, Dr. Mendel has been a surgeon for 15 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and received a doctorate of medicine from the SUNY Health Science Center in 1978. He completed his residency at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, where he served as chief resident in surgery from 1982 to 1983.

Louis Green, MD, was elected secretary/treasurer. A member of the American College of Physicians and the Medical Society of the State of New York, Dr. Green is an internist with Internist Associates of CNY. He is also a clinical associate professor of medicine at the SUNY Health Science at Syracuse. A DeWitt resident, Dr. Green received a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1971 and a doctorate of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1975. He has been practicing medicine for 20 years, including a medicine residency at University Hospital, Syracuse.

Crouse Hospital also appointed Robert Weisenthal, MD, new chief of ophthamology. Dr. Weisenthal has been affiliated with Crouse Hospital for the past 10 years and is a founding partner in LaserView Center of CNY, a Crouse Health affiliate providing laser vision correction procedures. Dr. Weisenthal, of Fayetteville, has 16 years experience and holds a bachelor’s degree and doctorate of medicine from the University of Wisconsin. He completed a ophthamology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute, University of Pennsylvania.
