About the programOur criminal justice services are designed specifically for the substance-abusing criminal offender and those with DWI convictions.
- Parole Program
- Because the needs of these individuals differ from the general treatment population, this program offers a non-traditional approach to treatment. An intensive program for parolees has been integrated into the general early morning intensive program. We also have groups meeting one time per week for parolees not needing an intensive program. Old patterns of thought and behavior are confronted, and individuals are able to make changes which results in less recidivism.
A multidisciplinary team of counselors (many with criminal justice backgrounds) help clients identify (or modify) skills picked up in prison that can be used to their advantage once released. We work closely with the New York State Division of Parole, the Onondaga County Probation Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department in developing treatment and discharge plans, ensuring that appropriate support systems for our clients are in place after they are released. Individual and group aftercare services are also offered.
We continue to receive referrals from WDTC (Willard) and these individuals receive level-of-care determinations based on their needs, including employment, mental and physical health.
In 1990, the program was recognized by the City of Syracuse/ County of Onondaga Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission for its innovative approach to treating criminal offenders.
Crouse Hospital is the most experienced provider in central New York to offer services to this population.
Treatment costs are covered by most private health insurance companies and by Medicaid. A sliding-fee schedule for those without insurance coverage is available.
