Crouse Hospital's Endoscopy Services

Before Your Procedure

There are a few things that we ask all patients to do prior to coming in for their endoscopic procedure.

Where to Park

Parking for a fee is available in the CNY Medical Center Garage. We recommend parking on the second level.

Checking In

The Endoscopy Suite is located on the 4th floor, Suite 420, in the CNY Medical Center (739 Irving Avenue -- across from the hospital). Please arrive at the time indicated by your physician's office. This time is indicated on the front label of the brochure given to you by your physician.

At check-in a representative will review and verify your insurance coverage, and you will have ample time to handle necessary paperwork.

Your Procedure

Your procedure will be reviewed with you by a registered nurse. You may be required to dress in a hospital gown. An intravenous (IV) line may also be required, depending on your physician's orders for the scheduled procedure.

Please don't hesitate to ask your nurse any questions at this point - it's important to us that you know exactly what your procedure involves and that you feel comfortable with the process.

Most endoscopy procedures take place in our endoscopy suite and can last anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour, depending on the procedure. Your physician or the nurse caring for you can tell you approximately how long your particular procedure will take. If the procedure requires that X-rays be taken, it will take place in the hospital's medical imaging department or the hospital's operating room.

Along with a physician, there will be one nurse and one GI technician at your side during your procedure. Again, depending on the procedure, you may be given an IV sedative to minimize discomfort. Every effort will be made to make you feel as comfortable as possible. If you have not done so already, please discuss options for sedation with your physician prior to your appointment in Endoscopy.

If you are given a sedative, do not plan to drive home or to drive for the rest of the day. Even though you may not feel tired, your judgment and reflexes may not be normal.

Please note:
We require you to make arrangements with either a family member or friend to bring you home following the procedure. Even if you plan to take a bus, taxi or other transport service, we require that someone accompany you.

No-Smoking Policy

For the health of our patients, visitors and employees, Crouse Hospital facilities offer a totally smoke-free environment.

There is a designated smoking area located outside the building.
