MORGAN AND TED LONG CHAT ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

Meet Morgan! She’s 20, grew up in Central New York and recently embarked on a journey following in the footsteps of Ted Long from 93Q and her grandmother.
On Oct. 15, 2012, Morgan, weighing just shy of 400 pounds, had gastric bypass surgery at Crouse Hospital. So far she’s lost 60 pounds, and is looking forward to continuing to reach a healthy weight she can maintain for a lifetime.
Morgan didn’t opt for the surgery on a whim. Doctors had suggested many diets during her childhood, and then began recommending bariatric surgery. Fear is what prevented her from even considering the surgical procedure. But one day in late 2011, an off-hand comment by a physician changed her mind.
“My doctor told me that I’d never be able to have children being so overweight,” recalls Morgan. “I love kids and have always known that one day I wanted to become a mother.”
That news prompted Morgan to attend a free informational seminar about weight-loss surgery presented by Jeffrey DeSimone, MD, and Kenneth Cooper, DO, at Crouse Hospital. She and her grandmother attended together and now come to Crouse monthly for support group meetings with others who’ve had the surgery.
Morgan now has a new mentor: Ted Long from 93Q. Ted had his surgery at Crouse on Sept. 22, 2011, and has lost more than 140 pounds. He is going to serve as Morgan’s guide as she spends the coming months trimming down. You’ll be able to hear her on 93Q and cheer her on when she posts regular progress reports on Crouse’s Facebook page.
Good luck, Morgan — we’re all behind you!
