Q.   What are the advantages of enrolling in Crouse Hospital School of Nursing?

A.   The faculty and staff of Crouse Hospital School of Nursing are committed to excellence in nursing education. The school continually adapts to keep pace with requirements of today's students and society's need for qualified professional nurses.

The Marley Education Center, with it's state-of-the-art amenities, offers a wide range of learning opportunities for the student. The library, nursing laboratory and media services are all incorporated in the student's learning experience. We are also proud of the fact that we are able to maintain a faculty to student ratio of 1:8 in the clinical setting. This is well below the limit of 1:10 set by the State Education Department.

Q.   Does Crouse Hospital School of Nursing offer an associate degree program?

A.   Yes, we provide a two-year program approved by the New York State Education Department. Students receive an associate degree in Applied Science, with a major in Nursing.

Q.   Is there on campus housing?

A.  There is a residence hall in the Marley Education Center for female students only. It boasts a comfortable sitting/TV area, as well as a kitchen and laundry facilities. The 30 available spaces are usually given first to incoming freshmen who do not live within a reasonable commuting distance, then on a first come, first serve basis. Area housing for male students is also available.

Q.   Do you offer evening classes?

A.   Yes, part-time day and evening classes are available.

Q.    How would a part-time schedule work?

A.   A part-time schedule as defined by the New York State board of Regents is less than 12 credit hours. So, if you take less than 12 credit hours you will be considered part-time. Students enrolled part-time must complete the program within five years. Your faculty advisor will work closely with you to design a tailored program to meet your academic needs.

Q.  Will class be held in the summer?

A.   Many students choose to take arts and science courses during the summer to lighten their workloads during the academic year.

Q.   Will students receive hands-on training in the hospital?

A.  Students will continue to receive hands-on clinical experience in the hospital, as well as many off-site locations. One of the advantages to our program is that the students start their clinical experience within the first month of classes. The Marley Education Center also has a state-of-the-art nursing arts lab where students are able to practice what they learn in class before they care for patients.

Q.  What types of financial aid are available?

A.   Crouse Hospital School of Nursing has several forms of student aid available. These include Federal Pell Grants, work/study, student loans, New York State T.A.P. and limited scholarship funds. The "Tuition, Fees & Aid" section in the catalog and this web site provides a summary of the programs available.

Q.  How do I apply for financial aid?

A.  We use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Application as the applications for all student aid programs administered by the school of nursing. By filing these applications, you are applying for all of the student aid programs that we have. Any college financial aid officer or high school guidance office will have a supply of these forms.

Q.   When do I apply for financial aid?

A.  The deadline for the FAFSA and TAP applications is April 15. Generally, for an academic year beginning in August, you should file the forms during the previous spring. For example, the FAFSA and Tap applications filed during the spring 2004 would be for the 2004-2005 academic year.
