On-The-Job Training: Clinical Experience
Committed to Relevant Learning Opportunities
Determined to prepare nurses for excellence in clinical practice, our school provides the most
hands-on clinical experience available in central New York.
A significant strength of our program is our clinical component, which combines the theory
learned in class with actual nursing practice, so that learning has immediate relevance.
Students enrolled in nursing classes begin their clinical practice by the third week of
their course.
Crouse students receive extensive clinical experience in acute care and
non-acute care settings, and provide hands-on patient care for all populations ranging from
newborns to the elderly with a variety of diagnoses.
Students receive individual attention with a student/instructor ratio of 8:1 in the
clinical setting.
Clinical Diversity
Clinical experiences are available at a variety of sites, including:
- Hospitals
- Nursing Homes
- Community Clinics
- Healthcare Clinics
- School Health Offices
- Specialty Clinics
- Mental Health Facilities
- Home Care Agencies
Graduate Bridging Experience (GBE)
At the end of the program, students participate in a Graduate Bridging Experience, an intensive clinical experience.
Students are co-assigned with a nurse preceptor who holds expertise in a particular area of nursing.
This course assists students in the transition from the student role to the graduate role.
Students integrate theory and skills in the professional work environment and strengthen their sense of competence
and individual accountability.
