Cardiologist Riya Susan Chacko, MD, Joins Crouse Medical Practice

Riya Susan Chacko, MD, board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, has joined Crouse Medical Practice Cardiology.

Dr. Chacko earned her medical degree from the Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where she also completed a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases and a second fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging. Dr. Chacko, who also has a special interest in women’s heart health, served as a visiting fellow in heart failure and cardiac transplant, as well as a visiting fellow in adult congenital heart disease, at Massachusetts General Hospital, also affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

Prior to joining Crouse, Dr. Chacko was a staff cardiologist at St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse and a non-invasive general cardiologist for the Cardiovascular Group of Syracuse. In the Boston area, she served as a cardiologist at Beth Israel Deaconess, South Shore Hospital and at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Her husband, Thomas Chacko, MD, is a radiologist with Crouse Radiology Associates.

She has co-authored articles published in the American Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology Cardiovascular Intervention. Dr. Chacko is a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and the Onondaga County Medical Society.

Dr. Chacko has received numerous honors and awards, among them the Annie Simpson General Medicine Prize for best general average and the William F. Kellow Prize for the student who “most closely exemplifies the attributes of the ideal physician,” both from the Thomas Jefferson Medical College.
