Crouse Health has been recognized as a “Best Hospital” for maternity care in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Hospitals’ rankings, the highest distinction awarded for maternity services.
With nearly 4,000 births annually, Crouse delivers more babies than any other hospital in the region. As a Regional Perinatal Center for Central New York, Crouse provides care for moms and babies with special needs during pregnancy, surrounding delivery, or in the newborn period in a 14-county region.
New York State’s system for prenatal care includes a hierarchy of four levels of perinatal care provided by the hospitals within a region and led by a Regional Perinatal Center (RPC), which provides the most sophisticated care and provides education, advice and support to the affiliate hospitals in their region. The New York State Department of Health designates Crouse as the only hospital in Central New York to serve as the area’s only Level 4 neonatal intensive care unit.
U.S. News evaluates how well hospitals perform in childbirth using C-section rates, newborn severe complication rates, routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery (VBAC) rates, episiotomy rates, best practices to support breast milk feeding, whether a hospital meets federal criteria for “birthing-friendly” practices, and whether a hospital tracked and reported disparities in outcomes.
“This national recognition is a direct reflection of the incredible maternity team, who work tirelessly to ensure each mother and baby are cared for in the safest and most compassionate way,” said Crouse CEO Seth Kronenberg, MD.
The U.S. News rankings are based on objective measures of quality, including clinical outcomes, patient experience, and hospital practices that support safe and equitable care.
