What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon in July than socializing with family, friends and business associates while enjoying a polo match featuring the Skaneateles Polo Team!

Crouse Health Foundation’s 3rd annual Crouse Health Polo for Preemies was held on Sunday, July 29, at the Skaneateles Polo Club, 783 Andrews Rd, Skaneateles, NY. More than $49,000 in net proceeds was raised to benefit Crouse Health’s Baker Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. More than 1,200 enjoyed the event, with the Howard Hanna Real Estate Services team winning the polo match over the AXA Advisors team.

Pre-match festivities began at 1 p.m. for guests to socialize and enjoy musical entertainment by The Mere Mortals. Family-friendly activities included pony rides, bounce houses, arts & crafts and lawn games. Chances to win were offered throughout the afternoon that featured our popular Needle-in-the-Haystack, with contestants vying for a beautiful sapphire ring donated by Cazenovia Jewelry. Delicious food and beverages were available from Gannon’s Isle Ice Cream, Limp Lizard and Papa Gallo Taco Truck. The polo match began at 3 p.m.

Sistina Giordina from NewsChannel 9 served as program emcee. Crouse NICU graduate Caitlin Berry, who was born in 1999, helped open the afternoon by singing the National Anthem. At birth, her Apgar scores were the lowest possible, but she miraculously pulled through. Despite initial concerns about Caitlin’s cognitive and physical health, she began singing at age one and quickly showed a natural talent beyond her years. Caitlin sings the national anthem for Syracuse University basketball games; has performed with Benny Mardones at the Turning Stone Casino & Resort; and placed in the Top 10 in a New York State Fair Talent Show.

Proceeds from Crouse Health Polo for Preemies will support the care of the region’s premature and critically-ill newborns at Crouse Health’s Baker Regional NICU. These “Little Fighters” receive exceptional care from a dedicated, expert staff of neonatologists, nurses and pediatric specialists at the highest level NICU in our 14-county region.
